ECISD Faces Major Personnel Turmoil in 2002
In 2002 Ector County Independent School District confronted several personnel crises. The district dismissed a second coach after a poor postseason evaluation in November while Odessa High saw nine months earlier Scott Phillips replace Jim Carson as head coach, with Carson resigning after three years. ECISD Career Center Assistant Director Stephen Hetrick, employed 19 years, was arrested on sex related charges and faced a January pre trial hearing and February trial window, and his resignation followed. Former Career Center teacher Daniel Igo received a 20 year prison sentence for sexual assault involving a 15 year old student in 2000. The district also mourned the death of coach Ziegler during a game against Midland Lee. The year ends with ECISD beginning anew under the shadow of these events.
