A new weekly feature in the Odessa American titled The Children’s Reading Corner presents short easy readings from classic literature folklore and history. It appears in the Schools section on Page 1B every Monday starting this week, inviting families to share the joy of reading.

In Jounieh Lebanon a bomb exploded at Notre Dame de La Delivrance killing nine worshipers and injuring at least sixty as parishioners queued for Communion. A second bomb in the organ was found and defused underscoring regional sectarian tensions amid the peace process.
Jurors acquitted 11 Branch Davidians of murder charges linked to the February 1993 Mount Carmel raid near Waco. Five Davidians were convicted of voluntary manslaughter and two on weapons charges. Four were cleared entirely. Sentencing date pending. maximum potential term is ten years. Defense says ruling limits overreach by government.
AP reports that in 1989 two federal regulators warned of conflicts of interest involving Hillary Rodham Clinton's law firm in representing the government over Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan. FDIC lawyer April Breslaw overruled, keeping Rose Law Firm on the case amid broader probes into the Clintons' business dealings and the Whitewater investigation.
