Worst School Bus Crash in History Kills 20 Pupils
Prestonburg Kentucky reports a school bus with about 38 aboard struck a wrecker and plunged into the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River. An elderly construction worker, W. T. Hopkins, 57, was found dead and partially buried in mud behind the Lone Wolf Tavern on Andrews Highway by two coworkers. Justice of the Peace E. E. Nobles will conduct an inquest and an autopsy is planned. Hopkins lived in the frame house behind the tavern and worked for Younger Construction Co. Funeral services were pending.

Murder Suspect McMichael Shot After Day-Long Odessa Manhunt
A four state manhunt ended in a back yard in Odessa as murder suspect George Franklin McMichael, 36, was cornered and killed after a day of evading more than 190 patrols. Deputy Thad West was killed at 511 North Dotsy early Thursday. McMichael, charged with the deputy’s murder, died during the final confrontation. Trio Charged On Harboring Death Suspect
Two women and a man held by sheriff's deputies on harboring a felon remained jailed Friday in connection with the dragnet slaying of a deputy killer Thursday night. The trio identified are Ruby Luellen Sanford, Ethel May Dewitt, and Clinton Leslie Dewitt. A fourth arrest, a 36-year-old ex-convict, was to be released. Sheriff Gabrel said the investigation linked the Pecos Street house to the killer after a witness was lost. Bond for the accused was not yet set.
