Stormy weather lashes Texas with blizzard and fires
Storms hit Texas as a Pacific low drives heavy snow and wind across the Panhandle and Central Texas. Blowing snow and zero visibility halted traffic on Interstate 40 while winds up to 72 mph sparked grass fires that burned thousands of acres and damaged dozens of homes and vehicles. One firefighter died and four others were severely burned as crews battled the flames near San Antonio, with scattered showers and gusts complicating travel and power lines down across the Panhandle. The National Weather Service warned of lingering ice and hazardous conditions, but precipitation was expected to end later today.
