Five thefts were under investigation late Friday by city police and sheriff's deputies. An employee of Charne George Well Service reported the theft of tubing elevators from a unit near Goldsmith. Meadows Slaying Case Includes Psychiatric Evaluation
Dr James P Grigson of UT Southwestern examined Johnny Meadows in his Ector County jail cell Friday. Meadows, 34, oilfield worker, is held without bond on a murder with malice charge for the strangulation death of 26 year old Gloria Sue Green whose skeletal remains were found January 20 in a South Odessa vacant lot. Two Ex Odessa Men Face Charges In California
Two former Odessa men, Richard Chance Lassiter and Timothy Lee Colbaugh, were charged in Orange County with possession of a described device, conspiracy to commit robbery, and carrying a concealed weapon. Police stopped their vehicle when a somber scene unfolded with a burning briefcase and a planned extortion. A bomb-like explosion caused by a toggled switch in the case produced smoke but no injuries. The suspects, said to be cousins, remained jailed and are set for arraignment.
