An 18 year old Indian Jesuit student from Jaipur Bagaria, a junior majoring in business management, was elected president of the student government at John Carroll University in Cleveland. He defeated Edward Parks of Detroit and spoke about attending Jesuit college to study business.

Crane Author to Speak Here Sunday Night
Paul Patterson author and historian of Crane will speak at the second annual meeting of the Texas Permian Historical Society at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Odessa College Student Union Building. John A. Moravcik, society president, will chair. Annual reports and election of four directors for three years are on the agenda. Incumbents Moravecik, Mrs. M. Ted Henderson, Mark Henderson and William A. Walkup face terms expiring. The next quarterly meeting will be in Monahans on Sunday, May 2. A social hour follows the business session. Invited to attend are area historical societies including Castle-Gap-Horsehow Crossing, Fort Stockton, Pecos Valley, Midland County, Upton County, Ward County Historical Survey Committee, Andrews County Museum Committee, and Monahans State Sandhills Park Museum Committee. The Permian Society emphasizes the region’s Spanish expeditions, Indians, U.S. Army expeditions, trail drivers, pioneers, and the first oil arrivals as historic themes. Mrs. Grace M. District assignments for the 1960 census team leaders are pending from W M Moore of the El Paso Census Bureau office. Until districts are set, enumerator applicants cannot be hired. Wild Pistol Shot Fatal To Texan
Walter R. Jones age 21 was killed in Houston when a pistol shot through an apartment wall struck him in the chest as he ate supper. Police released neighbor Bobby Jackson on his own recognizance after he said his pistol discharged while returning it to its holster during a fast draw practice.

Auto Insurance Plan Cited in Death Decline
A State Insurance Board praised its new safe driving auto insurance plan as contributing to a 28 percent drop in fatalities in early 1960. Gov. Price Daniel called the decline almost sensational after a traffic safety conference, noting 58 fewer fatal crashes and 69 fewer deaths in seven weeks versus a year earlier. Penn Jackson, board chair, said the plan likely earned a considerable portion of the credit since it began January 1.

Missile test called a success at Eglin Air Force Base
The Air Force fired another GAM77 Hound Dog missile from a B52 bomber over Cape Canaveral and it sped hundreds of miles down the Atlantic test range before impacting in a predetermined area. It was the eighth in a series of tests from Eglin Air Force Base.
