Executive director Bethany Solis notes offers go to the first 480, others enter a waiting list while IDEA Public Schools describes its 2000 founding and growth into a large tuition-free charter network.
Residents in Odessa and Midland woke to above freezing weather for the first time in days as a late winter storm receded. Forecaster Devin Tichehak of the National Weather Service in Midland says a gradual warm-up will continue over the weekend with clear skies and rising temperatures into the 50s and 60s, potentially nearing 70 by early next week. Snowfall was light in the basin, with only traces reported in Odessa and Midland, while Monahans and Big Lake face a slower thaw due to heavier snow. See THAW Page 4A.
Odessa Police Department Chief Michael Gerke gave details Friday on Thursday night’s officer involved shooting in the 300 block of Ellis Drive. He identified the suspect as 39-year-old Odess an Christopher Ocon, who was shot once after allegedly pointing an unknown object perceived as a firearm at officers and a Texas DPS deputy.
