El Paso Co to shut Odessa ammonia and butadiene plants
The El Paso Products Co will not resume production at its Odessa ammonia plant shut after a January 10 explosion and a separate Odessa butadiene plant closed since 1982. The decision, approved in Houston by new directors after Burlington Northern acquired EPC, includes a $32 million after tax write-off and potential future conversion of the plants. The firm will continue seven petrochemicals at Odessa refineries and transfer workers where possible, with about 1,200 employees in Ector County affected.
