Odessa Medical Center will run a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine drive through at Ratliff Stadium south main entrance from 9 AM to 2 PM today with tentative Friday only if vaccines remain. Phase 1A frontline workers and Phase 1B at risk and those 65 plus eligible. Online preregistration advised. on site options available.
Odessa High School and Permian High School each crowned all state musicians in a joint attendance at the band hall event. Caitlin Fitzgerald Paige Byford Justus Davis from OHS Chorale and Aidan Caballero Shaun Price Alex Lozano Dillon Martin from Permian earned the honors. Directors Aaron Hawley and Jeffrey Whitaker highlighted the achievement as a lasting badge of honor while noting the absence of the Texas Music Educators Association convention this year. Davis, a ninth grader, said pride in competing with upperclassmen. Byford and Fitzgerald spoke of hard work paying off. The 26 year old Odessa employee, once too young to rent a car, now oversees nine city departments including the fleet and leads COVID 19 response efforts. He helped educate residents, arrange testing and vaccinations, and supported food bank and housing assistance programs as city leaders praise his service.
Former Odessa resident John Mata, now based in Dallas, helped illustrate the White House logo used by the Biden administration. A 1999 Odessa High School and 2003 UTPB graduate, Mata recalls starting doodling in a small Texas town before his work reached a global audience. He cites an NDA restricting further comments while noting his pride in the project.
