Retiring lawmakers may be eligible for $100000 pensions
Longtime service in Congress yields annual pensions near $100,000, roughly five times the national average. The National Taxpayers Union bases calculations on estimates for 1999 retirees, noting inflation adjustments make these benefits unusually generous versus private sector plans. Some members would reach about $98,694 or more, with others near $96,462 and above.
