Two Midland men were injured when a twin engine plane hit a 138000 volt power line, cutting power to parts of Midland and Odessa around 6 55 p m. Pilot Ralph Meriwether 38 was under observation for a possible back injury Rex Rowland 42 treated for foot and neck injuries and released Three unidentified children aboard were not taken to hospital. Electrical service was restored in Midland about five minutes later.

Marines Overrun DMZ Stronghold After Two-Day Battle
UPI reports three Marine companies crossed into a long time Communist stronghold near the DMZ and drove out two North Vietnamese companies after a fierce two day clash. At least 67 Marines were killed and 106 wounded, while Communist losses were about 60. The fighting began with helicopter and boat landings about 20 miles from the DMZ and 20 miles south of Da Nang. Marines pressed to help South Vietnamese allies in a broad sweep of northern provinces near the DMZ, clearing Thon Tham Ke after heavy fire and mortar barrages. The village was found ringed with bunkers and fortifications. 27 Communist dead were counted, while 48 Marines died and 81 were wounded.
