Russia plans February disposal of Mir in Pacific crash
Russian space officials will drop the aging Mir in February using a cargo craft and fuel boost to push it toward the Pacific Ocean east of Australia. If needed an emergency crew could depart within 12 hours to steer the descent. Koptev cited wear and radio-link loss as reasons to end Mir’s orbit, amid Communist protests and fears of debris.
