Texans report widespread child abuse awareness gaps
A Texas A&M Public Policy Research Institute survey for the Children's Trust Fund of Texas finds about four in ten Texans say they have seen child abuse or neglect in the past year while 30 percent are unaware of mandatory reporting requirements. The telephone poll of 2,710 adults during January to April shows 151,261 reports in 1996 with 44,704 confirmed, about 122 per day, and highlights gaps in knowledge about laws and protections for reporters.
