Odessa and Ector County back Summit power plant plans
Odessa and Ector County invested in Summit Power Group Inc's planned 2 billion coal gasification plant slated to start 2011. The 400 megawatt facility aims to capture 90 percent of CO2 for enhanced oil recovery in the Permian Basin, with byproducts like fertilizer. The city approved a 5 million job creation grant, triggering a letter of credit requirement and raising questions about repayment if the project falters. Ector County also approved contributions, with decisions made in December.
