University Park eyes fire sprinklers for new homes
Homebuilders in University Park may be required to install fire sprinklers in new houses. Fire Marshal John Gillette cites safety after three home fires since 2000 with no sprinklers. The proposal, possibly Jan 29, faces opposition over costs and liability. If enacted it would be the region’s strictest rule.

Army secretary says he didn’t know who crashed into home
Fort Worth Secretary of the Army Pete Geren said he did not know the man who crashed his car into his kitchen and later killed himself Sunday. Police said 37 year old Edward McKee walked from a garage nearby to shoot himself, and authorities doubt the act targeted the house. No injuries were reported and damage is being assessed. Toxicology results are pending. Geren, a former Texas congressman, was confirmed as Secretary of the Army in July.
