Voyager completed a nine day unrefueled, non stop circumnavigation ending with a desert landing at Edwards Air Force Base California. Pilots Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager emerged bruised but triumphant as 15 000 spectators watched the dramatic finish over the dry lake bed.

Permian General shuts mental health unit after contract dispute
Administrators at Permian General Hospital closed the 15 bed mental health unit citing contract deficiencies. The action follows a Nov 17 notice to MHM to cure problems by Dec 17 or face termination. Record Wet Year Continues In Permian Basin Weather
Forecasters warn the Permian Basin will stay precipitation rich in this wet year with a 40 percent chance of more rain and snow. The NWS at Midland reports a total of 32.13 inches, 0.39 inch in the last 24 hours, surpassing the 1941 record. Christmas Day expected near 20/50 with no precipitation forecast. Traffic incidents were minimal despite heavy rains elsewhere in Texas.
