Mysterious beating of Spence baffles investigators
Investigators concede the assault on Spence was not meant to end in his death. Motive theories included a drug deal gone bad or Spence’s alleged involvement with two prostitutes, but no solid evidence supports these claims. The over a year long probe faced scant physical evidence and unreliable witnesses from the Wooden Keg incident. An eyewitness with a criminal record, on probation, and reportedly using marijuana at 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 19 complicated the case.
