Man in Belleville Converts Home to Free Cafe for Needy
William Land who turned his house into the Cozy Kitchen Cafe and shelter for the hungry says he is broke after four years of relying on donations and his wife’s income. He quit welding in 1983 following President Reagan’s appeal to aid the poor. The cafe seats 15 and operates on donations with no charge for food. Nearby church and Salvation Army officials praise his efforts.
