China Taiwan trade talks and arms sales shift examined

Military plans include limited arms sales to Taiwan while ruling out major jet transfers, and Goldwater calls for a special session to shape Taiwan policy.

Skylab to reenter Earth with limited chance of safe rescue

NASA announced Skylab will reenter the atmosphere and break apart over a wide area, scattering debris across a 4000 by 100 mile track. Though efforts last March aimed to extend life for a shuttle to boost or steer reentry, deteriorating systems and limited control reduce chances of a safe mission. Skylab, launched May 1973 in a 2.5 billion program, now orbits about 265 miles up and NASA will track debris as reentry nears.

Commerce data show November personal income up 1 percent and housing starts at 2.1 million, though building permits fell to 1.69 million signaling housing cost pressures.
