Filing for sheriff extended after late withdrawal in Ector County
The Texas Secretary of State ordered the Ector County Republican Party to reopen and extend the filing period for sheriff after incumbent Mark Donaldson withdrew one minute before the original filing deadline. Donaldson had filed for a fifth term Friday but withdrew Monday to deter outside contenders. Republican Chairwoman Tisha Crow cited Texas Election Code 172.054, which allows extension if the incumbent withdraws or is deemed ineligible after the deadline, to avoid a blank ballot for the March 1 primary. Two also filed on the day of his withdrawal.
