School board reverses freshmen athletic policy change
ECISD trustees scrapped planned rules allowing non campus ninth graders to join Odessa High and Permian varsity and sub varsity teams. The move, dubbed the Allen Strambler Rule, followed concerns from junior high principals and coaches about athletic environments and eligibility practices. The board shifted to a plan that would restrict freshman eligibility to the varsity level only and block ninth graders from populating sophomore and junior varsity squads.
