Dust, Darkness Might Have Killed Dinosaurs
AP Science Writer Robert Locke reports that a dust cloud 65 million years ago may have obscured the sun for months, dropping land temperatures to below freezing and wiping out many species including dinosaurs. Owen Toon of NASA Ames presents a revised scenario with shorter, more dramatic impacts and a massive energy release from a possible ocean collision.

Auto exhaust linked to cancer risk says Nebraska scientist
Dr. Ercole Cavalieri and colleagues report laboratory evidence that cyclopentapyrene CPP from burning gasoline, with another exhaust pollutant BP, causes tumors in mice and mutational effects. CPP found in all exhaust samples in Germany and possibly widespread in the U S. They seek an $843,000 four year grant to study CPP prevalence and human risk.
