Study cites local culpability in Southern University shooting

A 12 member committee ruled local authorities may face personal culpability in the November 16 confrontation at Southern University Baton Rouge where two students Denver Smith and Leonard Brown were killed. The report notes a deputy possibly fired the fatal shot but does not name a shooter or six men in the crowd. It calls the students’ administration building occupation improper and says a tear gas canister sparked the melee. The findings suggest submitting evidence to the district attorney while FBI focus narrows to a deputy peers and other deputies tested.
