Soldier dies in West Texas jail faced by restraint

Army Sgt. James Brown, stationed at Fort Bliss, died in 2012 while serving a DWI sentence after jailers restrained him during a weekend confinement. The medical examiner ruled a sickle cell crisis caused death, but a hired pathologist later deemed it homicide citing restraint methods. The county settled the wrongful death suit as Brown’s mother vows to prevent similar jail deaths.
