Number of U S rigs rises by twenty this week
The active U S rig count climbs to 1 161 this week, up 20 from last week. Baker Hughes reports 757 natural gas rigs and 393 oil rigs, with 11 miscellaneous. Texas adds seven, Oklahoma six, Louisiana five, Alaska and Pennsylvania two each, California Colorado New Mexico Wyoming one each. Arkansas drops two. North Dakota and West Virginia unchanged. The count peaked at 4 530 in 1981 and hit a record low of 488 in 1999.
