Odessa sales tax falls for fifth straight month
Odessa December sales tax receipts drop 6.5 percent to 712,340 from 761,889 in December 1997, per city finance director James Zentner. The downturn, blamed in part on oil prices, follows four prior declines. Quarterly results show a milder picture, with first quarter down about 3.5 percent. Officials foresee potential budget tweaks if the trend persists.
