Self-taught brothers craft 17-story Statue of Liberty balloon
In Connecticut, Gerard Lefevre 26 and Mark Lefevre 28 built a 17-story hot air balloon replica of the Statue of Liberty using 2200 yards of nylon and 12 miles of thread. They funded it with savings and hundreds of hours, abandoning their carpentry business to complete the project. Balloon Life editor Tom Hamilton called their achievement remarkable and noted most similar shapes are engineer designed.
