Johnson Ranch Park To Combine The Old With New
Washington AP Lyndon B. Johnson donated over 200 acres of the LBJ Ranch in Texas to the public this week and the National Park Service advances plans to showcase a modern working ranch. Thirty six head of registered cattle will graze on the hills as crops spread, with the park paying $25 000 to $35 000 for the cattle and hiring Johnson’s foreman plus five ranchhands to supervise the transition and related Old West displays at a nearby 4.7 acre tract. A national presidential package will blend Johnson’s birthplace boyhood home Texas White House retirement site and cemetery within 15 miles and include a one room school and blacksmithing and saddlemaking demonstrations to illustrate the life of the nation’s first southwestern president.
