Supreme Court weighs Chicago loitering law on gangs
Chicago residents and officials debate a 1992 anti loitering ordinance used to curb drug selling by gangs. The case, tied to 45 000 arrests, reaches the U S Supreme Court with supporters like the U S Conference of Mayors and critics arguing the measure infringes individual rights and targets minorities. Local residents recall arrests and court dismissals while police defend the law as a tool to reduce street crime and protect neighborhoods.
