Rangers Subpoenaed by Rights Commission in Starr County
SAN ANTONIO AP Two Texas Rangers, Capt. A.Y. Allee and Ranger Jack Van Cleve, were subpoenaed to appear before a six member U.S. Civil Rights Commission in a private session on Mexican American farm labor issues. The hearings, set for next week, aim to hear testimony on alleged strike breaking and a civil rights suit naming Rangers and Starr County officers. Semaan, the lawyer for the Rangers, questioned the usefulness of appearance, while Van Cleve indicated he might decline public testimony.

Clark Denies Rewriting Report Before Release
Washington attorney general Ramsey Clark denies altering the Presidents Commission on Violence summary of the Walker report. He concedes advance copies were seen and that only changes involved deleting comments on cases under investigation. The Chicago Tribune cited Daniel Walker as presenting copies in Washington and claimed the summary was rewritten.
