Stevens recalls past Alaska crashes amid flight safety debate
The senator reflects on the 1972 Begich and Boggs disappearance and the 1935 Rogers and Post crash as investigators assess Alaska air safety. NTSB teams in Anchorage anticipate up to five weeks for a preliminary report while FAA notes weather was tolerable for landing and runway lengths affect Lear jet operations. Stevens won reelection last month after an earlier appointive term following Senator Bartlett's death.
