Sun Poles Cooler Than Rest Of Corona, OSO-7 Finds
The sun shows north and south polar caps with polar corona temperatures around 1.87 million degrees, cooler than the 3.6 million degrees elsewhere. Active regions flare up to 6 to 8 million degrees, with 10 million to over 70 million for flares. OSO-7 continues solar observation to map seasonal polar cap variations and long term changes.
