UIL enrollment reshapes West Texas high school football districts
Abilene High 2107 and Cooper 2044 enrollment figures prompt possible reclassification by the UIL in February. If Cooper moves up, West Texas could see a split into two six team districts with Permian Odessa High and others, while travel costs and scheduling concerns shape proposed alignments for 5A and 6A basins. Coach Blake Feldt favors smaller districts to ease playoff paths, though others warn of reduced opponents and scheduling challenges.
