Rural health clinics eyed to cut Texas indigent care costs
Federal Rural Health Clinic Services Act could cost Texas about 25 million dollars over two years. Commissioner Jerome Chapman warns per unit costs may rise above current indigent care payments. HEW regional director Eddie Bernice Johnson says state law must allow nurse practitioners and physician assistants to receive full benefits. A Senate subcommittee hears that Texas physicians' participation in Medicaid is limited and that proper medical supervision by physicians must be mandated. The hearing wraps a statewide series ahead of a 1979 Legislature recommendation.
