Court upholds ruling against Chicago police strip search policy
A federal appeals court affirmed a lower court decision that Chicago Police Department rules requiring all arrested women to undergo strip searches were unconstitutional. The ruling found the policy demeaning and unequal, requiring probable cause for female searches and noting scant utility for minor offenses. The policy, in effect 1952 to 1980, was struck down for Fourth and 14th Amendment violations.
