Released time policy challenged by Texas attorney general
In Fort Worth a state AG ruling held the released time policy unconstitutional, saying it improperly grants taxpayers money to educator organizations. TEA counsel says districts can continue with strict public purpose and controls, guiding boards to specify permissible activities and oversight. TSTA leaders say room remains for districts to allow released time for professional associations if public purpose and controls exist. In Georgia, three people were killed and two wounded in a rural northeast city argument, with Robert Strickland arrested on murder and aggravated assault charges.
