Hospital faces potential default over GASB 68 pension accruals
Local hospital warns its FY2018 budget could trigger a technical default due to GASB 68 pension accounting. CFO Jon Riggs says estimated net pension liability and inflows/outflows add 10.2 million in 2017 and 15.3 million in 2018 versus cash expenses, with auditors and bond counsel weighing an allowance from bondholders. The board voted to raise the ad valorem rate to generate 4.9 million, despite two members opposing, and set public hearings for September 13 and 19 with final vote September 26.
