Evacuation of Five Texas Prisons as Harvey Floods Houston
Two more Texas prisons were evacuated late Monday as historic flooding from Hurricane Harvey inundates Houston. About 1,400 inmates at Vance and Jester III in Richmond were moved to South Texas units, part of a total roughly 6,000 inmates relocated from five facilities. Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark noted logistical challenges amid widespread flooding. The prior evacuations, totaling about 4,500 inmates from Terrell Stringfellow and Ramsey prisons in Brazoria County, were completed with few issues as Harvey made landfall near Corpus Christi Friday night.
