TIPRO urges import fee plan to stabilize oil price at 28
Texas independent producers group TIPRO presses President Bush to declare imported oil a security threat and seek a variable import fee with a $28 per barrel minimum price, adjusted for inflation. James E. Russell says the move aims to curb dependence on foreign oil as domestic production declines. John Day notes price instability amid Gulf tensions. TIPRO also backs preferential status for domestic natural gas.
