Computerized records aid cattle sales by Angus association
Waltham Massachusetts AP reports the American Angus Association uses computer systems to manage records for about 10 million cattle across 35,000 Angus ranchers. The system handles 1500 daily transactions and adds up to 300,000 new registrations yearly, issuing pedigree certificates with ancestral data. Printouts help breeders select productive calves and best sires and dams, guiding culling and selection decisions.

Milky Way bears fruit for science
Astronomers report a new region of enormous molecular clouds on the Milky Way’s outer edge, potentially a birthplace of stars. The clouds stretch about 30,000 light years, cooler than inner clouds, and may reveal star formation processes both near the center and toward the galaxy’s edge.
