Midland County Public Library hosts the Permian Basin Writers Workshop at Centennial Library and Midland College Carrasco Room. Four presenting authors agents and editors from around the country share a day and a half schedule. Advanced registration is required with a $35 fee covering dinner and lunch. Vester Lee Flanagan former WDBJ employee used on air name Bryce Williams. He opened fire during an interview killing Alison Parker and Adam Ward on live TV in Moneta Virginia. Two others harmed. he fled, posted the video to social media, and later died from a gunshot wound while being pursued.

Ramirez found guilty on child injuries not capital murder
An Ector County jury deliberated nine hours before returning guilty verdicts on injury to a child and injury to a child by omission for Segundo Ramirez. The panel had acquitted him of capital murder. a life sentence would have followed if the capital murder charge had stood. The jury will reconvene for sentencing.

The Odessa American marks 75 years with a look back at 1978 including the Jan. 22 death of Larry Ortega Lozando in Ector County jail. Officials said head injuries in a padded cell caused death after a scuffle. The federal probe ended with no indictments and the DOJ ruled accidental.
