RealNetworks Cuts Price Again and Seeds Student Access
RealNetworks kept slashing download prices and launched yearlong pilot programs granting free Rhapsody access to UC Berkeley undergraduates until Oct 31 and discounted subscriptions for Minnesota campuses. The moves aim to curb music piracy while rivals like Napster push campus deals as Microsoft prepares a Windows store similar to iTunes. Instant messaging at work also rose, with 27 percent of workers sending messages online and 43 percent using it for quick office communication.
