Killer freed after community fundraises for new trial
In Chillicothe Missouri a convicted murderer, Mart Woodworth, 22, walks free to await a new trial after the Missouri Court of Appeals ordered it. The small city of 9,000 has held fundraisers from bake sales to roasts raising thousands, including at least $14,000 so far toward a $150,000 bond as supporters insist on his innocence. Prosecutors say the crime stemmed from a dispute. Woodworth was jailed since Oct 20, 1993 and convicted in 1995 of murder, assault and armed counts. The appeals court cited errors in testimony and evidence from the first trial.
