EPA warned of blowout risk before Gold King spill
Internal EPA documents show officials knew a catastrophic blowout from the idle Gold King Mine could occur and that a 3 million gallon spill prompted cleanup actions. The Aug 5 2015 release tainted rivers in three states, with plans for containment limited and much of the safety briefing redacted. Officials face questions about adherence to the plan and adequacy of precautions.
