26-Foot Treehouse Rises At The DoSeum In San Antonio
DoSeum in San Antonio unveils a 26 foot tall treehouse blending Hobbit house and ship shell aesthetics in the east yard. Artie Jonker of Azzanarts built it over two years using repurposed live oak juniper red cedar and walnut shingles. The structure rests on steel beams with an eighties ramp to an observation deck overlooking the Children’s Stream. Jonker, a 39 year old South African, has built 26 treehouses in Texas, most not in trees. The design aims to spark adventure and ownership in kids, including wheelchairs users, with eye catching details inspired by a black heron. Local families praise the project as inspirational and impressive.
