A new art exhibit opens Friday at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The Betty Monteith and Dave Swenson show runs through Sept 29 in the Nancy Fyfe Cardozier Gallery of the Visual Arts Studios. Gallery hours are 9 am to 5 pm weekdays and 2 pm to 5 pm weekends. The Midland Odessa Symphony and Chorale invites students in grades 3 to 8 to audition for the Voices of the Permian Basin Choir formerly MOSC Kids Choir. Auditions run 5 30 p m to 8 p m on September 12 and 9 a m to 3 p m on September 14 at the MOSC Administration Building 3100 La Force Blvd Midland. No prep required. Odessa City Council weighing increased solid waste charges as population rises. Public Works Director Matt Squyres notes accounts grew from under 42,000 in 2010 to nearing 44,000, with 49 department employees including 35 drivers. The plan adds eight workers, three drivers, four general staff, and a solid waste technician, plus three side-loading trucks, an extra rear-loader, a one-ton pickup, and six more side-loaders in 2013 2014. Residential rates would rise from 15.11 to 18.28 per month with outside city limits increasing from 40.28 to 48.74 for weekly trash pickup. There is more details on page 7A.
