Sinking survivor recalls terror-filled night on Long Island Sound
A survivor, Richard Lublin of West Hartford, testified at a Coast Guard hearing about the collision of his 36-foot cabin cruiser Karen E with a tug and cement barge. He described pleas for help ignored by tug crews, the sinking after a wake and line snag, and the loss of his wife, daughter, friends, and others. He swam for seven hours, said he underestimated danger, and recalled lifesaving efforts among passengers who were placed in lifejackets earlier.
