In a trial opening, Charlotte Harris of the public defender's office argued Luciano Chapa has brain damage from a 15 year old motorcycle accident and is prone to taking people at face value. Midland attorney Novert Morales urged scrutiny of government witnesses as Pasqual Gonzalez faces past charges and alleged investigative flaws. Omar Arias Carrillo, 32, testified Balderrama’s drug network moved about 62 tons of marijuana using methods like hiding bricks in plywood stacks and tar barrels, naming Balderrama and Quiroz as leaders.
