MTV chooses Austin for a three day festival at Zilker Park November 7 to 10 featuring BMX biking skateboarding inline skating snowboarding and rock acts by Reel Big Fish 311 and Wyclef Jean. MTV plans about 1 million in hotel costs with tickets at five dollars per day and cites Austin’s growing entertainment image.

Court denies bid to replace judge over alleged remarks
A federal appeals court in New Orleans rejected Chevron USA's request to remove U. S. District Judge Kenneth Hoyt from a racial environmental justice case. The 5th Circuit said disqualifying him now would be unprecedented after the jury was seated and extensive testimony had occurred. The ruling leaves the trial ongoing with Hoyt presiding.
