Pioneer 10 marks deep space milestone and power longevity
TRW built Pioneer 10 now at 25 AUs, surpassing all prior probes. Lassen and Park conceived the spin stabilized deep space craft powered by four radioisotope generators delivering about 115 watts as it nears the solar system’s edge. Communications remain possible to roughly 40 AU, with power decay and instrument cooling risk as the craft sails outward.
